Ryan Kelly, CEO of Spectrum Asset Management, Inc., has worked with the firm since 1990. Ryan works with clients to align their wealth with their vision, values and goals. His responsibilities include developing new client relationships, investment counseling, portfolio management and wealth management.
Ryan transitioned Spectrum from a pure portfolio management firm in the late 90’s to a wealth management firm. In 1999, he incorporated Values Based Financial Planning created by Bill Bachrach into the firm. In 2005, he incorporated some of the key ideas of Dan Sullivan, including R-Factor and D.O.S. and in 2007 he began working directly with Bruce Wright and became trained in the use of Macro Strategic Planning.
Ryan earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1990. While at UCSB, he was elected president of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and remains involved with the fraternity. He has served on numerous boards in a fiduciary capacity, often filling the role of Chairman. He recently completed a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the Pacific Club, the premier business and social club in Orange County. Currently, he chairs the Investment Committee for Coastline Community College Foundation.
He has taught investment courses at local community colleges, and has been a presenter on fundraising and investments to various non-profit groups, including the Network of California Community College Foundations (NCCCF). Ryan has had several articles published on fundraising and investments in national publications, and is a frequently-quoted authority in the field.
Ryan grew up in and lives with his wife and children in Newport Beach.
R. “Kelly” Kelly is a Chartered Investment Counselor (C.I.C.) with over 50 years experience in the securities profession. His substantial investment background includes conducting economic and securities research and personally managing significant client portfolios. In the decade prior to co-founding Spectrum Asset Management, Kelly was President of Argus Investment Management, Inc., a subsidiary of Argus Research Group of New York.
Previously, he headed Arbor Investment Management in Pasadena and was president of Lenox Capital Management of New York; and American General Capital Management of Houston. He has been a credentialed instructor in the California College system for over 30 years, and is the author of several published articles on investment and finance.
Kelly attended East L.A. Community College and received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from California State University at Los Angeles and has completed additional studies at the Wharton School of Finance and Princeton. Under the adage of “don’t let your age be your cage”, Kelly recently completed his Executive MBA at Pepperdine University. Separately, he was recognized as an outstanding alumni and received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the College of Business and Economics at California State University, Los Angeles and has spoken as a guest lecturer on investments and life wisdom at the campus. Kelly is a life long skier and handball player.
With over 25 years experience as a financial professional, Mike joined Spectrum in 2013 as an Executive Vice President. His responsibilities include financial planning, investment counseling and working with clients to safeguard their financial future. Prior to merging his firm with Spectrum, Mike founded and served as President of Ottman Financial Group, Inc., an independent advisory firm. Mike founded the firm on the principles of independent, unbiased financial counseling and investment management, assisting clients with their financial planning and wealth management needs. Mike earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance from California State University, Long Beach in 1986 and also received the Certified Financial Planner designation from the College for Financial Planning in 1994. Mike grew up in Orange County, CA and now lives with his wife Jodi and their two boys in Maui. He enjoys water time, spending time with his family, and giving back locally including serving on the Board for Surfrider Foundation’s Maui Chapter.
With over 40 years experience as a finance professional, Nancy joined Spectrum in 2012 as an Executive Vice President. Her responsibilities include financial planning, investment counseling and working with clients to safeguard their financial future.
Prior to merging her firm with Spectrum, Nancy co-founded the registered investment advisory firm of Harrigan & Howard Financial Advisors in 1997. Before founding Harrigan & Howard, she worked as a credentialed CFP® with a regional financial planning firm. Nancy entered the advisory business to help people with planning for and maintaining their financial independence. She began her financial career as a Certified Public Accountant with a large national public accounting firm in Los Angeles. After several years, Nancy expanded her financial expertise by transitioning to the corporate world where she held positions as a Controller, Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of both private and publically held companies.
Some of her interests include snow & water skiing, travel, hiking and tennis. Born in Wisconsin, Nancy grew up in Southern California and currently resides with her husband in Huntington Beach.
Lisa Sharp is our Vice President of Client Relations, and has worked at Spectrum since 2004. Mrs. Sharp has over 20 years of financial services experience, including a decade of her career with Charles Schwab & Co, where she was an advisor and manager.
Lisa is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis in finance. She splits her time between being a dedicated mother and work. Lisa resides in Mission Viejo, California with her husband Dave and daughter Cassandra.
Tony is currently responsible for the day to day management of company operations, overseeing portfolio management, compliance, accounting, HR, and office management, focused on providing quality client service and wealth management. Other responsibilities include investment research, client service, and investment counseling.
Tony has over 18 years in the investment business. Prior to joining Spectrum in 2001, Tony was a Financial Advisor with Prudential Securities, Inc. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Society from UC Santa Barbara in 1995.
Tony currently resides in Orange County with his wife and two daughters, and enjoys golf.
Brenda has an extensive background working with executives and their clients, friends and strategic partners. As the administrative professional at Spectrum, Brenda provides executive-level assistance to the CEO and performs organizational responsibilities throughout the Spectrum office. She is responsible for calendar maintenance, meeting and event facilitation, preparation and tracking of correspondence, account maintenance, technical support, and the development and follow-up of workflow processes throughout the organization.
Prior to joining Spectrum in 2010, Brenda spent 15 years performing key executive support roles in the aerospace industry. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwestern College in Wichita, Kansas. Brenda is an avid cyclist and also enjoys the variety of other outdoor activities and adventures available year-round in the mild climate of Orange County.
Marilyn Clyburn is our Portfolio Administrator. She has worked with Spectrum since its founding in 1987 and with “Kelly” Kelly at his predecessor firm. Marilyn’s duties include portfolio administration, trading, portfolio reconciliation, client money transfers, client reporting and general client needs. Her long history in the industry brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to each client interaction. Marilyn lives in Fountain Valley, CA and enjoys gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
