Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the common questions about Spectrum Asset Management, Inc.

Who do you help?

Spectrum is a world-class provider of investment advisory services to the affluent and non-profit marketplace. Our clients are a diverse group of professionals and families. We help our clients gain clarity and confidence through every phase of life from retirement or selling a business to family wealth transfer.

Where are your clients located?

Many of our clients are located in Orange County, California but we have many long-standing relationships with clients who live throughout the U.S.

When was your firm founded?

Spectrum is a 2nd generation family firm, co-founded by “Kelly” Kelly and his son Marc Kelly in 1987. The youngest of the Kelly clan, Ryan Kelly began working with the firm in 1990 and has served as the CEO for the past 20 years.

How do we work together?

We create confidence in three easy steps.
Step 1: We Look at Your Long-Term Vision
Why? Because your retirement should serve what you want, not what an advisor wants. We can’t build a plan if we don’t know where you want to go.

Step 2: We Create a Financial Road Map
A financial roadmap is a financial plan that includes a Kolbe® and Money Max® survey, that provides a strong sense of how to work together with your unique personality, financial situation, and long-term goals.

Step 3: We Align Your Total Balance Sheet
Your balance sheet (liquid and illiquid) aligned with your core values creates clarity, confidence, and peace of mind. This allows us to serve you as a guide for our clients so they can live their dreams.

What types of services do you provide?

A. Strategic Services: The Values Filter Development Process, Exit Strategies, Creating your Ideal Calendar, Financial Road Map, Wealth Team Coordinator

B. Traditional Services: Total Balance Sheet Overview, Financial Planning, Investment Management, Investment Consulting, Portfolio Management

C. Strategic Partner Services: Basic & Advanced Estate Planning, Tax Planning, Advanced Insurance Design & Placement, Business Transfer, Risk Management

What role do you play in my professional team along with my CPA and Attorney?

We serve as a hub and collaborate with our client’s CPA’s and Attorneys to provide holistic solutions for client goals. We are the access and interpretive point for our clients to the financial world.

Why is the Kolbe index so important?

The Kolbe A Index measures your natural strengths and the instinctive ways you take action when you strive. It helps us gain a greater understanding of how our clients operate so we can serve and engage them in the most productive, and least stressful way. The Kolbe A results direct us toward more effective communication.

How often will we meet?

This depends on the individual client. We typically connect with clients quarterly, and tailor the frequency of meetings based on client needs. We are always available in person, by phone, e-mail or zoom if clients have a question or would like to meet at any time.
